Laser Clean NI was commissioned to restore a textile production machine that had seen decades of industrial service. Heavy accumulations of grease, oxidation, carbon deposits and production residue concealed the original surface, while the existing paint system required complete removal in preparation for recoating.
Using precision laser cleaning technology, the machine was stripped back to bare metal in a controlled manner, revealing the original engineering detail and providing a clean, prepared surface for the next stage of refurbishment — without the use of abrasive blasting media or chemical paint strippers.
Years of continuous industrial use had left the machinery with multiple layers of contamination and deteriorated coatings. The complex construction of the equipment, including cast components, edges, joints, recessed areas and detailed engineering features, made thorough surface preparation particularly challenging.
The objective was not simply to improve the appearance of the machine. The existing coatings and contamination needed to be removed sufficiently to expose the underlying metal and provide a properly prepared surface for the new coating system.
Traditional abrasive blasting would also have introduced blasting media, dust and secondary waste around the equipment. Laser cleaning offered a highly controlled alternative, particularly around intricate components and difficult-to-access areas.
Following an initial assessment of the machinery and existing surface condition, the cleaning parameters were established and adjusted to suit the different areas of the machine.
Our industrial laser cleaning system was then used progressively across the equipment to remove the existing paint system, oxidation and accumulated production contamination.
The ability to precisely control the laser allowed our team to work around complex geometry, cast features, edges and recessed areas while progressively exposing the underlying metal.

The completed laser cleaning process transformed the condition of the machinery, removing years of accumulated contamination and deteriorated coatings while exposing the underlying metalwork.
Detailed features that had previously been obscured became clearly visible, and the equipment was left with a clean, consistent surface ready for the next stage of the refurbishment programme.
On this particular project, the client elected to carry out the recoating themselves following completion of our surface preparation work.
